My situation with Macdonald Resorts has now been resolved and I have put the details of my most recent correspondence with them here.

thanks for the informative posting re eccles outcome.

We need to get Macdonalds to be more open about resales, their costs and profits. They have to admit that "Options" was a mistake and dump them. The situation will build up as we all get older. I baled out of an unwanted week on ebay and would advise others to bite the bullet and do the same, if only for peace of mind!

Well done eccles. Reading your correspondence has given me fresh hope. Having bought my timeshare in 1988 my reasons for buying mirrored yours, hopefully the outcome will be the same as yours.

All I can do is wish you the best of luck in trying resolve your own situation.

Although I lost money and I had to pay to give my timeshare back, I am soo glad I am now free of it.

Interestingly, we had a timeshare in Malta, which didn't cost us a great deal and the maintenance charges were very reasonable. When we last went there, we asked if it was possible to give it back with no charges or strings. No problem at all. OK, we lost our original investment, but we had had some good holidays there and were prepared to take the loss. Just a shame that all timeshare companies can't be as helpful.
